One item that is not available through Dick Blick, but is a necessary tool for any pumpkin carving kit is the small pumpkin saw. These saws can be found in other carving kits found in stores by Pumpkin Masters and Home Logic.

Speedball cutters are one of the best carving tools available for doing the shaded or "peeled" sections of the pumpkin. This year, we are offering the set with two handles to reduce the number of blade changes necessary to carve your pattern.

Speedball Linoleum Cutters are made of the finest quality steel with long lasting cutting edges. Liner (1) V-Gouge (2) Large Line (3) U-Gouge (4) Large Gouge (5) Knife (6) Speedball Linoleum Cutters fit holders for standard Speedball lettering pen nibs. With firm printmaking materials such as linoleum, where a palm grip is needed, use them with the Speedball Linoleum Cutter Handle . With soft printmaking materials, a standard pen holder such as the Blick Pen Holder can be used. Cutters are available in packages of 2 or boxes of 12. (Cutters cannot be assorted.) The end of the handle twists off for convenient storage of cutters inside.

Transfer paper is one of the best methods for tracing the pattern onto the pumpkin. We suggest the blue color for pumpkins....

Saral Wax Free Transfer Paper

Saral Wax Free Transfer Paper is a specialized transfer paper that works like carbon paper to transfer a design from one surface to another. It produces waxless, greaseless, clean tracings that lay lightly on the tracing surface and are easy to erase. Each roll contains 12 ft (366 cm) of paper measuring 12½" (318 mm) in width. Non-photographic, for bright line and tole painting.

This is a smaller quantity of transfer paper if you're not ready for the Saral roll. This is the kind of transfer paper that was previously sold on the site, and used by The Wizard for years.

Loew Cornell's Transfer Paper is waxless and greaseless, and it won't bleed through paint. Smudge proof and erasable. Each sheet measures 9" × 13" (23 cm × 33 cm).

Kemper Ribbon Tools (a.k.a Clay Loops) - $2.58 Each
Clay loop tools are invaluable when it comes to smoothing larger shaded areas. These were sold in a set in the past, but are now available individually. We highly suggest the R2 loop, but all of the sizes and shapes available make for a more versatile carving kit.

Flat, ribbon-like, clockspring steel forms the cutting heads on these tools. They provide a variety of shapes for light cutting and trimming of clay, greenware, plaster, etc. Each tool is approximately 6" (15 cm) long,and has a wooden handle with a brass ferrule.

The larger pear-shaped clay loop makes an excellent pumpkin clean-out tool. Great for thinning out the walls of the pumpkin for better, more uniform shading.
