Jack is awesome! Really cool...
And I love that sculpt too - I keep on telling myself I need to try one of those, but it never happens...

My nephew just got done with a VERY cool sculpt:

He really rocked on it. It really is a fun time, but I do want to take a sculpture class. I think I'll try for a winter session somewhere as I always forget by the Summer.

I decided to try a 360 degree "Where the Wild Things Are" pumpkin. This thing took me forever - first on the pattern, then the carving. I finally gave up on finalizing the pattern - you can see the one I used here, but clearly I made many changes (I also used one of Jamie's monsters as an add-in here). I finally decided to use this to experiment with various types of textures. So most of the details of the monsters I ended up just free-handing, as I did with making the trees, leaves, etc.

Here's a series of 6 pictures. The AVI is here if you want to see the pumpkin fully turned. (78 meg).

As you can see, I tried something different with each of the monsters. Some came out fairly well, as did some of the tree and leaf textures.

OK, Now I'm jealous! That's going to put my 180deg carve to shame. I'm still tracing mine, but it's on that really big white pumpkin I found.

You've definitely outdone yourself on that one though... =D> =D> =D>

Aww, thanks for the great comments! I will say that pumpkin was a nightmare from the get-go. Forget about the insane problems of doing a pattern all the way around the pumpkin, or carving it without smudging any of the pattern anywhere - the pumpkin itself was as hard as wood in some places and completely soft in others!

Ah well, anyways, here's a carving of Ski's Beast Within pattern from another Nephew of mine - his first carve!

And I just got done with this year's Death Star (probably my last) - on a 148 pound pumpkin:

I'm sure your 180deg carve will be awesome! How do you find carving on the white pumpkins? I haven't tried one of the large ones, but the one small one I did a few years ago I didn't like much.
