Inkjet ‘waterslide’ decal paper...

Unread postby Jontyl » Thu Oct 26, 2017 5:52 pm

I’ve just ordered some decal paper from amazon.. Gonna try and use it for transferring the patterns/templates onto the pumpkins instead of using transfer/tracedown paper. If it works it should save a lot of time and faff and should make for much cleaner and precise carves.

Anyone ever tried this before?

Will update you all on how it goes :-)

I have used "pumpkin tattoos" that I won. They are waterslide decals essentially. Works really well

Jontyl, you will have to post the results. I am still gluing mine on.
Don't forget. You don't have to be the best carver in the world, you just have to be the best one on your block!

I still just use the sticker paper. How did this paper end up working out?

It was a bit hit and miss. I carved a Jack Sparrow kin using this technique. Problem is the moisture from the Pumpkin made parts of the decal come off whilst carving....

But still a lot more accurate way of carving than using tracedown technique and far less time consuming. Just need to leave the decal to dry properly on the kin before carving

I guess it's too late to try this technique this year but it sure seems promising.
Which brand of decal paper did you use?
Were there any problems carving through the decal?
Did you use the clear or white decal paper?
