How to Make a Pumpkin Light

I light my pumpkins with a very simple, and readily available lighting system. The principle ingredient is a single candle "candelabra" Christmas light. These are always available in the department stores well before Halloween, and cost about $1.50.

Next I cut down the candle stick by removing it from the base, and cutting off enough of the bottom portion to make it fit the pumpkin. For larger pumpkins, y9ou may not have to cut any off at all, but if you do, be sure not to cut into the electrical wire on the inside. I just use my pumpkin saw to first cut half way through the candle stick with the wire in the opposite side, then the other side in the same way.

If the bulb that comes with your candlestick is not bright enough, you can replace it with any other bulb with a candelabra base, up to 40 watts if necessary. I find that a 25 watt bulb is plenty of light in most cases.

And there you have it! You very own Pumpkin Light!
